The Lankans, finally, had their moment when they beat Singapore 6-0 to finish ninth here at the 2007 Asia Cup on Sunday. Singapore was expected to run them close but Lanka were a confident lot and more eager on the field to record a positive result.
At the break, Lanka were leading 2-0 but in the second half, Singapore gave up the battle and conceded four more goals.
Lanka took the lead in the 14th minute when Summandarathne fired in a field attempt. Lanka scored from a penalty corner in the 27th, the scorer being Hettiarachchi.
At the break, Lanka led 2-0.
In the second half, the scorers for Lanka were Abeyrathne, Nimanka Srimal, Jayasundara and Anju Hewage.
